Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

Kevin Fullerton has made the official phone calls and I’ve followed up with a congratulatory email. The results are official. We welcome the following new members to the 2009-2010 Art+Copy Club council:

  • Ky Miller – Meers Advertising
  • Joy Moeller – 19 Below
  • Adam Seitz – Bernstein-Rein

And of course, we welcome back our comrades who have been re-elected:

  • Jeff Berney – Burn Advertising
  • Aaron Cathey – Two West
  • Vicky Frenkel – Vicky Frenkel Design

Congratulations to each of you! We’ll see you at your first council meeting, June 1st at The Cashew.

I like what I’m seeing.

A change is taking place among the club’s membership that I am really liking. Slowly but surely the vision of “Ours” is coming to fruition.

I came up with the notion of “Ours” at the beginning of my presidency because I felt that this club didn’t do as good a job of forming committees and involving our membership as the other AAF-KC clubs did. When we had events come up, the council was pretty self-sufficient and did a great job of putting things together, but it seemed like it was always the same people doing the work time after time. This was by choice, however, because we rarely reached out to the membership and asked for help.

This hasn’t been easy. There has been some relearning and growing pains here in the council as we did our best to employ this new way of thinking. But it’s happening.

Tonight’s Bulletproof event has been planned and carried out by a committee of fresh names and faces, some of which are new to AAF-KC and Art+Copy Club. This is how it should be.

I like what I’m seeing. This club is truly “Ours.” And that’s a great thing.
